A record of our ownership of Sea Apple, a 1983 LM 26 Danish motorsailer

About Sea Apple

Sea Apple is a 1983 LM 26 Bermudan sloop motorsailer, built by Lunderskov Møbelfabrik / LM Glasfiber in Lunderskov, Denmark. In 41 years she has had just seven previous owners, including a dental surgeon, a major, a commander and a lady! The original owner's surname was Appleton, hence the name Sea Apple presumably.

We must confess to having never heard of LMs, but when we happened upon Sea Apple we thought she fitted the bill for the type of sailing we want to do now, i.e. day sailing with one or two night stays aboard. To that end she appears to have everything we want and nothing we don't, i.e.

  • A large, obstacle free cockpit, especially so for the LOA
  • An enclosed wheelhouse for those British winter summer days
  • A full canvas cockpit enclosure, as above
  • Eberspacher heating, as above
  • A marine heads rather than Porta Potti
  • Lots of storage rather than extra cabins
  • Pressurised fresh water

We had even considered a motorboat instead of a yacht, if we had seen one that took our fancy, but it seems like in the LM we have the best of both worlds to suit our particular requirements.
