Carrick Roads and Mylor

24th July 2026

A more idyllic way to spend an afternoon on the water would be hard to imagine - sunshine, blue skies, flat water and a gentle breeze - perfect for pottering about in the Carrick Roads & Falmouth Bay, sailing to nowhere in particular. We even got our 'steering stick' out - turns out if you want to go left, you move it to the right - who'd have thunk it? Actually Andy did, about half a century ago when he first used outboards, but he'd never driven a 'big' boat with stick steering before. Sea Apple of course has the benefit of both wheel and tiller steering.

We found ourselves half way to the Helford, but as we had a visitor berth booked at Mylor Yacht Harbour and, equally importantly, a table booked at Castaways, we turned around and headed up river.

As ever, the staff at the former were helpful & friendly (we had a slightly tricky 'parking place' between two big racing yachts and a beautiful classic wooden yacht with an enormous bowsprit...), and at the latter again all the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was superb - special thanks to chef for the Porchetta with fresh pea & broad bean salad - unbeknown to us when we ordered it, this is a new addition to the menu.

So after spending the night in Mylor, on Friday afternoon when we arrived back at our home marina, everyone appeared to be heading to their boats - we were heading home for the weekend!
